I am sitting on my back porch enjoying the beautiful weather and getting excited for summer. I am not leaving yet, but many of my friends will be leaving Eugene shortly after graduation. As I sit in anticipation, I can’t imagine ever having to say goodbye to so many people at once. One more month of school and one more month until we all go our separate ways. The lessons learned and the friendships made will stick with me forever.

I have learned a lot during my time as a student at the University of Oregon, but not all of it was grammar and PR plans. First, we are meant to live in community. Communities build each other up and support one another. Communities are full of people you can lean on and turn to when trials come. The battle is always better won with others there to help you. I am learning that it is okay to seek help and good will come from sharing your life with others.
Second, it is impossible to plan for everything. If I had it my way, the future would be mapped out in advance with a plan in place for everything. As much as I try to make this work, my plans don’t always turn out the way they should. Instead I have to learn to start each day with an open mind and ready for the unexpected.
Senior year is racing to a close and it’s hard to prepare for the transition out of school. Time to start a new set of goals and finish the year strong.
