I’ve taken a break from writing since moving back to Oregon, and have used this time to explore the goals I have for myself. Leaving Disney was hard, not only because I loved it so much, but because it meant I had decisions to make about what career path I wanted to take.

One day over the summer something clicked in my head and I started researching aviation. The lives of flight attendants particularly interested me, and the more I learned about being a crew member, the more I realized- that is exactly what I want to do.

I submitted applications to all of the major airlines August 25, 2019. That’s right, four months ago. I had no idea how long this process would be, but the timing of it all was in God’s perfect plan. Most airlines only open the flight attendant application for a short time twice a year. I applied, submitted video interviews and waited. I waited and waited until I almost gave up hope that I would ever hear back, and then December 19th my Christmas came early as an invitation to fly to Houston, Texas for an in-person interview.

I was stressed, nervous and felt unprepared, but I was encouraged by my friends and family to be myself and walk with confidence. I also sought advice from other aspiring and current flight attendants from Flight Attendant Career Connection. These people, who are complete strangers to me, left messages with tips, advice and encouragement that made me feel so comforted and like I was part of the FA family already!

As nervous as I was, my experience in Houston could not have been more positive! The recruiters were some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met, which made talking to them in my interviews feel so easy.

Right now I’m sitting in shock on my flight home because moments before I boarded the plane, I received an offer from United Airlines to join the crew in the friendly skies! A few flight attendants nearby, witnessed my reaction to opening this email and it turned out that they would be the crew members onboard my flight today. They congratulated me and showered me with kindness. I was even invited to come back to the galley of the plane to talk about their experiences flying. These flight attendants only further confirmed the family atmosphere I expected from this company and I am eager to receive my training date and get started in this new and exciting career.

Thank you to everyone who has supported me during this process. I am so grateful for the journey and so excited for the many more adventures in store for me. I’m going to be a flight attendant!
